Established in the heart of Times Square, New York, in the early 80s, our roots trace back to a halal restaurant operated by the owner’s father. From those bustling streets, our passion for crafting mouthwatering gyros, kabobs, and a variety of other fast-food favorites was born.

How the name came about?

So the name Maq’s is an abbreviation of our family name, Maqsudi. For a while, we’ve always used New York as our theme since that’s where it all started. However, my vision was to take that and build a brand that’s more personal and get the community to really know us. Not just by the halal spot or NY Gyro, but as Maq’s.

Why did i decided to open a restaurant?

My whole life, I’ve witnessed my father working for himself, no matter how hard or challenging it got. He never once taught me to work for someone else when you can be your own boss. However, after seeing him lose his businesses throughout the years of hardship, I lost that vision.

Recently, I tried one more time and opened “NY Gyro & Grill” in Claymont, Delaware. After years of struggle and hard work, we’ve managed to build a thriving brand in the community. That’s when I decided to expand and bring it to Wilmington, DE, as I saw a lack of variety and wanted to bring the change.
